Why it’s worth traveling for:

Iconic oceanfront grandeur in Puerto Rico

Hotel Highlights: Occupying the idyllic oceanfront site of a former Laurance Rockefeller eco-resort- once the preferred escape of the 60’s glitterati – today Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve has reclaimed its status as a coveted Caribbean hotspot favored by the global jet set. Meander beyond the iconic hotel’s white-stone pitched roof pavilion entrance to explore its lush gardens, secluded stretch of beach, breathtaking infinity pool and glamorous tropical-inspired design.  Assuming of course you can tear yourself away from your luxe suite or villa given they come outfitted with ocean views, outdoor showers, deep soaking tubs, and verandahs, many with private plunge pools. The stunning property is also home to a five acre spa, tennis courts, waterfront golf courses and a red-hot culinary line-up where elevated elegance meets sand between-the-toes charm.

Eat + Drink: COA, the resort’s signature restaurant takes its name after the tool Puerto Rico’s indigenous people used to harvest the land and in that spirit the ingredients are seasonally sourced from local farms and many dishes are made in the Mi Brasa, a traditional, Spanish wood-burning oven It also happens to have the largest wine cellar in the Caribbean with 690 labels and 3,200 bottles. At Encanto Beach Club and Grill, enjoy Mediterranean cuisine and island-inspired cocktails, while Positivo Sand Bar specializes in Asian-inspired and Latin infused fare. Dorado also has its own gourmet market and a Culinary Center, La Cocina, where you can indulge in five-course dinners with wine pairings and even sign up for a cooking class to master the chef’s techniques.

Beauty + Wellness: When you enter Spa Botánico you’ll be greeted by a 100-year-old Ficus tree which represents longevity, health, and endurance and sums up the spa’s philosophy. As for the experience, the pampering happens in pavilions set amid the jungle and surrounding lush purification gardens and pools. Treatments are infused with wild plants and herbs native to the area and blended in the Reserve’s own apothecary.  Try the Manos Santos Massage (in Puerto Rican history every village had their own healer known as Manos Santos), a relaxing, flowing massage using customized botanical oil blends (you can choose vitality, serenity or muscle ease).

Curated Experience: There’s really no need to leave the fabulousness on offer at Dorado Beach, except maybe for a dreamy cruise on a private yacht. Ask the resort to book your charter to Set sail to explore the beautiful surrounding islands of Culebra, Vieques, Icacos, and Palomino.
