Why it’s worth traveling for…
An extraordinary work of art, Byblos Art Hotel blends the 16th-century Villa Amistà with contemporary, chic interiors. Owner Dino Facchini, founder of the fashion line Byblos, (along with renowned designer Alessandro Mendini), has created a whimsical, colorful interior – opulent frescoed ballroom, art-designed rooms, and works by world-famous designers (Ron Arad, Philippe Starck), and artists (Andy Warhol, Damien Hirst) among others. As expected in the ‘hometown’ of Romeo and Juliet, there is a dreamy romantic side to the hotel: sink into the Roman-style pool, opt for side-by-side treatments in the spa and savor candlelit dinners – sea bass sweetened with rose petals.
Stroll through the hotel’s tranquil Italian gardens featuring fountains made from Verona marble, before heading into town to retrace Shakespeare’s fictitious Romeo and Juliet set – Juliet’s famous balcony and medieval-themed bedroom at Casa di Giulietta (now a museum). Explore, too, the wineries of the Valpolicella area and stunning Lake Garda.
