THE VIBE
Just two hours outside of New York City, Troutbeck is an enchanting country estate with a storied past. Once a mainstay for iconic American writers and political leaders such as Teddy Roosevelt, Mark Twain and Ernest Hemingway, Troutbeck today revels in this history and promises guests a restorative retreat away from the city’s chaos. Don your best glasses and a turtleneck and prepare to weekend like the literati with a whiskey in hand as you marvel at the extensive collection of leather bound books.

THE LOOK
Completely reimagined by Alexandra Champalimaud – known for her ability to completely restore and modernize Grand Dame hotels while still honoring historic elements – Troutbeck has that very particular Town & Country feel you expect when on an upstate escape. Oversized couches in rich leathers, textured blankets, and walls painted in deep hues of orange, green, and turquoise. The whole place is vaguely reminiscent of a Wes Anderson movie – perfectly understated in its luxury and romance –  almost impossible not to fall in love with.

THE SLEEP
Each guestroom comes with a four poster bed draped in crisp Frette linens with a four poster wooden bed frame. Our favorite suite is the Spingarn Suite which used to be the master bedroom has now been  is painted a bright shade of turquoise with views looking out over Dunham Creek and Troutbeck’s age old Sycamore trees. Spacious, sunny, and airy, this two bedroom suite is perfect for families or a group of friends.

THE WOW
What really makes Troutbeck special is how carefully the history is incorporated into the everyday – visitors feel as if they are immediately a part of a long legacy of hospitality. If traveling with a group of friends, we recommend booking the Century Lodge – a four bedroom, five bathroom country house out of our daydreams. Design details are minimalist but still cozy and welcoming.

THE FEEL
The pool and tennis court are dotted with lush trees and surrounded by acres of greenery – we wouldn’t want to spend a leisurely summer day anywhere else. If you’re more of an active adventurer, Troutbeck is situated on 45 bucolic acres that are just begging to be explored. Visiting in the winter? We recommend jetting over to nearby Catamount Mountain for a day of skiing.

THE TASTE
Chef Marcel oversees the property’s new American farm-to-table restaurant aptly called The Dining Room. Inspired by the Provence country side, his childhood spent in France and French culinary traditions, Chef Marcel uses his recipes from his French mother to take guests on a truly unique culinary experience. We recommend staying for brunch.
