Since our first visit to The Greenwich Hotel, we have been dreaming about returning to Shibui Spa for a treatment. The Spa is quite literally the most beautiful, serene location in NYC. From the sexy indoor pool to the impeccably attentive massage therapists, Shibui Spa is sealed in our vote as the #1 spot to unwind and treat yourself.
The treatment that we selected was The Elemental Well-Being Massage. Before your customized massage even begins, your massage therapist will take you through a pre-pampering dry brushing session which does wonders for your skin and circulation. Treat yourself further and opt for the 75-minute treatment option where you will also be able to enjoy a plunge into a mineral-infused soak inside your own private Japanese Ofuro tub. The tub is said to have healing properties that can help you boost your immune system and detoxify your body.
Our wonderful massage therapist then went to great lengths to explain the different uses of nature’s five elements through essential oils. Using ancient Chinese and Japanese medicinal practices, Shibui Spa takes nature’s five elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water – to heal any ailments of both the body and mind. We selected Earth, as it is said to have balancing powers and is the most popular of the oils. The massage combines Eastern and Western techniques, and was equal parts healing and relaxing.
While this was our first official trip to Shibui Spa to experience the treatments, we know that we will be return customers. Shibui is unlike any other spa in New York because you don’t just go there for the massage, facial, or products – you go there to unplug, get lost for a while, and immerse yourself into what feels like another world.
