We spoke to our fearless leader and global jetsetter, Melanie Brandman, founder of Travel Curator who recently returned to her home town of Sydney . . .

 Why did you go?

Visit my family and catch up with my office there.

Who with?

Just myself, I go twice a year to get my fill of all things Aussie.

What did you pack in your carry-on? Must have’s inflight?

Window or aisle?

Window for long haul 7+ hours, aisle for short.

Where did you stay?

At my brothers on Manly Beach.  Fantastic location and a fun, cool beach town in the heart of Sydney.

Where did you eat?

I absolutely LOVE eating out in Australia.  The food is probably some of the best in the world (in my view).  The fresh seafood and produce is amazing.  And Australian wines are pretty fab too.  I loved going to HUGO’s at Manly Wharf for lunch, The Boathouse (in Palm beach or Many) for breakfast and dinner at OTTO on Woolloomooloo Wharf in the city and Chiswick in Woolahra.  I spent most of my time on the Northern Beach, while there, cocktails at Jonah’s (hotel/restaurant) is a must for sweeping views of Palm Beach and Whale beaches.

What did you buy?  What would you bring back from Sydney?

I love finding great fashion and home stores when I’m back in Sydney.  I came across a fantastic linen store Ecodownunder which was having an incredible end of summer sale, which was ideal as I was heading back to summer in the States.  There was also a super cool home store in Palm Beach called Boathouse home that had some great things for my beach cottage in the Hamptons.

Must do’s when there?

If you only have a short time in Sydney, I would recommend taking a ferry ride from the city to Manly Beach or Watson’s Bay for some harbor-side lunch or dinner.  It’s a great way to see the Sydney Opera House and some spectacular homes and city coves and beaches.  The Sydney Bridge climb is pretty incredible and not as scary as one would think – you are strapped in tightly.  Take a sea plane to the Northern Beach for lunch or dinner, a brilliant way to see Sydney and its outer regions in all their glory.

Your favorite (WTF) moment of the trip?

Spending time with family & friends
