Worth Traveling For

Long before wellness resorts became fashionable, Omni La Costa was defining the Southern California resort experience. First opened in the 1960s, the 400-acre property continues to evolve while staying true to what made it iconic in the first place: everyone has their own personalize vacation without leaving the property. Southern California has no shortage of luxury resorts, but few manage to satisfy golfers, spa lovers, families, and couples equally well. That’s exactly what has kept Omni La Costa relevant for more than six decades. Few luxury resorts cater to multiple generations as effortlessly. While golfers tee off on championship courses, others unwind at one of California’s premier destination spas, rally on the resort’s expansive tennis and pickleball courts, or spend the day bouncing between eight pools and family-friendly waterslides before reuniting for dinner.

Unlike many luxury hotels where the destination competes with the property, Omni La Costa is the destination. Whether you’re planning a multigenerational family vacation, a golf getaway, or a long weekend devoted entirely to relaxation, there’s little reason to venture beyond the resort gates.

Renovated guest rooms blend the resort’s Spanish Mission heritage with light-filled interiors, coastal textures, and soft neutral tones, while expansive suites and residential-style villas make longer stays especially comfortable. Villas are particularly appealing for families and groups, offering generous living space that feels like a private vacation home.

Recreation is at the heart of the La Costa experience. Eight swimming pools, including family-friendly pools with waterslides and quieter adults-only spaces, share the 400-acre property with two championship golf courses, a stellar spa, robust tennis and pickleball program, and a 9,100-square-foot athletic club. Dining is equally varied, from elevated California fare overlooking the fairways at VUE to Spanish-inspired small plates at Bar Traza, classic steaks at Bob’s Steak & Chop House, and tropical cocktails at the seasonal Tiki Social. Throughout it all, service is warm, polished, and refreshingly unpretentious.

Rooms & Experience

Despite its 400-acre footprint, Omni La Costa is surprisingly easy to navigate. The resort unfolds like a Spanish village, with low-rise buildings connected by flowering pathways, courtyards, and gardens that encourage guests to slow down between activities.

This is one of Southern California’s best luxury resorts for multigenerational travel. Families will appreciate the spacious suites and villas, waterslides, and endless activities for kids, while couples can retreat to the adults-only pool, book a spa treatment, or linger over dinner and cocktails without feeling like they’re vacationing at a family resort. It’s equally well suited for long weekends with friends, golf trips, wellness escapes, or celebrations where everyone has a different idea of the perfect vacation.

Villas are worth the upgrade for multigenerational trips or longer stays, offering significantly more space and privacy. Spring and fall offer ideal weather and lighter crowds, though summer remains popular thanks to the extensive pool complex and family programming. Spa appointments and golf tee times should be reserved well in advance, particularly on weekends.
