Magnificent Manhattan | The Surrey

The Surrey | New York, New York

THE VIBE
Effortlessly chic, artfully decorated. The Surrey is an icon of New York City’s illustrious Upper East Side neighborhood and has welcomed some of America’s most legendary celebrities such as JFK and Bette Davis. The hotel is sumptuously decorated by renowned interior designer Lauren Rottett and feels like an artfully luxurious Upper East Side penthouse. The hotel is BEYOND tasteful—clientele consists of posh out-of-towners, executives and art enthusiasts.

THE LOOK
Harmonious, neutral palettes speak to the elevated tranquility where modern art blends seamlessly with the classic and refined styles of this pre-war Upper East Side building.

THE SLEEP
The Surrey features 189 salons including the 34 suites—a penthouse and a presidential suite. The penthouse is the real gem of the hotel, and boasts 10ft ceilings, a fireplace, a formal living and dining room, an eclectic art collection and direct access to the English roof garden. All guestrooms have a hand crafted dux bed by Duxiana which are absolutely heavenly, and will have you extending your stay.

THE TASTE
Although Manhattan is home to some of the world’s best restaurants (Eleven Madison Park!), The Surrey boasts Daniel Boulud’s first NYC restaurant—and just like the city that never sleeps, it’s a classic. The Restaurant, like any Boulud Restaurant is an institution and honors french cooking philosophies. A meal here is an experience , so go ahead and order everything on the menu—and absolutely no skipping dessert.

THE FEEL
The Cornelia Spa, as Vanity Fair so aptly put it, is a “place to write home about” and offers a true respite from city life. Insulated from the city sounds, The Cornelia Spa is an oasis of silence and each treatment concludes with a Tahitian vanilla cupcake with rose making any trip a full sensory experience. The spa has an extensive menu of restorative and rejuvenating treatments including massages, compresses, and peels—all of which serve as the perfect complement to a long day of exploring the urban sprawl of New York City.

THE LOCALE
The Surrey is located in the tree-lined Upper East Side, surrounded by historic brownstone buildings and near some of NYC’s finest cultural institutions such as the met, the Guggenheim, and The Frick. Spend the day meandering through museums and absorbing the beauty of the UES.  The surrey also has an in-resident art specialist who is available to help guests experience all of New York’s finest art. After a day of museums, spend the evening in central park meandering through the paths. In summer, sheep’s meadow is the perfect place for a picnic with a bottle of bubbly.

THE SNAP
The beauty of this hotel gem are all the nooks and cranny’s for some rather tasty Instagram snaps.  Discretion is the key for the perfect pose.
