Worth Traveling For

Pendry Manhattan West offers a fresh perspective on a New York City stay. You’ll be situated next to Hudson Yards and The Vessel, as well as the entrance to the High Line and the gastro-hub wonders of the Mercado Little Spain.

The hotel opened in the fall of 2021, and after that pandemic-era debut, flew under the radar for those seeking high-end city stays. Now, it’s fully emerged as a go-to option for travelers and staycationers looking to escape the more typical hotel neighborhoods of Manhattan. Times Square, Wall Street, or Central Park, this is not.

This property is as fresh and buzzy as its surroundings. From the moment you walk through the front doors of the Pendry Manhattan West, you’ll say goodbye to stuffy and old school, and instead be entranced by its social and contemporary take on luxury. A stay here is for those who want to take advantage of that vibe, and in particular, its buzzy in-house dining and nightlife options.

Quick access to Moynihan Hall makes the property an easy choice for those coming and going for a local weekender, and its west side positioning makes Newark Airport, in particular, a breeze.

Hotel Highlights

A stellar culinary and beverage program comes to the forefront at this hotel. At the sultry, dimly lit Bar Pendry, which feels like a closed-off private club, indulgent drinks and elevated bar bites reign supreme. Try the Belvedere 10 Luxury Martini adorned with a trio of caviar-stuffed olives, paired perhaps with a salad of golden beets, citrus, chicory, and feta.

Book a table at the bustling Zou Zou’s for standout Middle Eastern fare prepared on a live-fire grill. The sensory experience of counter seats in front of that grill — the enticing aromas, the captivating sights and sounds — make a meal here almost akin to dinner and a show. Get started with the assortment of mezze dips, and then opt for the Moroccan fried chicken or Yemeni au poivre kebab. After dinner, decamp upstairs to the funky lounge environs of Chez Zou for a craft cocktail nightcap or two. The Saffron Gibson is served in a showy, double-chambered porron, and the Pickle Spritz is a crowd favorite.

The fitness center is a spacious, pleasant surprise, given the often cramped quarters of Manhattan hotel gyms, and the need to work off some of those delicious aforementioned offerings. The gym area includes a movement studio with Pelotons and yoga gear, in addition to a central room with cardio and strength training equipment, a Smith machine, and dumbbells ranging up to 75 lbs.

Rooms & Experience

The lobby percolates with energy from happy hour through late night. That will tantalize some to take part in the revelry, though others may be looking for a quieter choice. Room corridors do a seamless job of separating off that side of the property, with serene, almost Shoji screen-style hallways.

Rooms showcase natural woods with whites and beige, coral red upholstered spinning chairs, and marble tables. Expect ample light from floor-to-ceiling windows, and thoughtful touches such as Fili D’Oro linens and Pendry-exclusive toiletries.

Even the starting rooms offer a comfortable choice exceeding typical Manhattan alternatives. The entry-level Deluxe City King is 320 square feet and includes an entrance foyer as well as a bathroom split into two halves, including a separate WC. Both sides are closed behind pocket doors and feature black mosaic tile flooring.

What to Know Before You Book

Suites include studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom options, as well as a few standout signatures. The 21st-floor Pendry Suite is a decadent, music lover’s paradise, and a top choice for those looking to entertain. It’s replete with its own Steinway piano, Taylor acoustic guitar, and Bowers & Wilkins audio system including tower speakers and a turntable with a curated collection of vinyls.
