Worth Traveling For

The Wall Street Hotel made its debut on its famed, eponymous stretch of city road in 2022. The 178-room hotel is housed in the historic Tontine Building, the recognizable Beaux-Arts facade of which was completed more than a century prior in 1902.

The modern hotel strives to keep some of that flair alive, via small touches such as its signature yellow color and flowing, handwritten-style font, and a bronze half-oyster shell bottle opener for in-room usage. The latter is an homage to the owners, the Paspaley family, who operate the largest and oldest pearling company in Australia. The hotel even has a partnership with the non-profit Billion Oyster Project to help restore New York Harbor via oyster reefs, making its location on the corner of Wall St. and Pearl St. all the more fitting.

While The Wall Street Hotel’s locale in the heart of the Financial District is a draw for business travelers, its luxe accommodations are even more well suited for romantic weekenders. In either case, a stellar food-and-beverage program is central to its appeal. Its venues are run by chef John Fraser’s JF Restaurants, with Amy Racine serving as beverage director for the property.

Hotel Highlights

The hotel draws inspiration from residential settings, something felt not only from within your room, but in charming guestroom corridors as well. A palette of silver, gray, and blue pairs with colorful, framed artwork and marble-topped consoles. Bathrooms are more intimate than you’d expect: think heated floors, Fretté robes, La Labo toiletries, and plush branded slippers.

The snazzy Lounge on Pearl, with its velvet-upholstered chairs, bright contemporary artwork, and extra-high ceilings, makes for a swanky setting for drinks, bar bites, or all-day dining. Order head bartender Valeria Gonzalez’s The Triple Pearl Martini that comes with three spoons of spherized liquid pearls of flavor: dry, dirty, and espresso, a novel and interactive way to sample different martini styles from one base drink. A lineup of other martinis is available, along with creative signature drinks.

La Marchande, where chef Kenyon Krieger-Fallows mans the kitchen, is stylized as a modern French chophouse, with old-world staples such as beef tartare and French onion soup alongside decidedly more international fare, ranging from tuna crudo to spiced Spanish octopus, house-made pastas, and a dedicated raw bar. Even the classics are different from what you’re expecting – that craveable French onion soup is vegetarian. Order that, and don’t pass up on the Parker House rolls accompanied by caviar and scallion crème fraîche.
